Wolf and Trustworthy God (狼と信ずべき神, Ōkami to Shinzubeki Kami) is the sixth episode of the second season of the Spice and Wolf anime.
Official Synopsis[]
The price of pyrite is climbing, there's no news from Diana, and Amarty appears to have figured out Lawrence's intentions! The plucky merchant's plan might be doomed - luckily, Holo has a plan of her own.
Plot[]
To defeat Amarty, Lawrence has to perfectly time a sale of enough pyrite to crash its market price. However, he lacks enough pyrite on hand and, seeing Holo beside Amarty, is greatly perturbed at the possibility of Holo also opposing him. Nevertheless, with the help of Marc's apprentice Lunt, he participates in the pyrite market, selling small quantities several times to combat the rapidly rising prices to no avail.
Diana's messenger finally arrives and informs Lawrence that the negotiations to get him more pyrite failed. In despair, Lawrence all but gives up before Lunt bravely reminds him that stubborn merchants never quit and confesses that he also likes Holo. Lawrence is impressed that Lunt would speak above his station and risk a beating just to motivate him. Importantly, he also realizes that with all his plotting and worrying he had forgotten to trust in Holo and the strength of their relationship.
Taking a leap of faith, Lawrence goes to sell his remaining pyrite. At that moment, Holo darts from Amarty's side and also sells a large bag of pyrite purchased from Diana, revealing that she was attempting to help Lawrence from the beginning. The market quickly turns to frenzied selling, dropping the price of pyrite. Amarty fails to fulfill his portion of his challenge to Lawrence and gives up his marriage proposal to Holo.
Back at the inn, Holo and Lawrence reconcile. Holo explains that she had found Diana from the scent on her letter and was actually with her when Lawrence visited to buy pyrite. They realize what they mean to one another, and the two grow closer as they decide to continue traveling together to find Yoitsu.
